How to use

Your doctor or nurse will guide you how to use this medicine.

How it works

Dulaglutide is an anti-diabetic drug. It works by increasing the release of insulin from pancreas, decreases hormones that raise blood sugar levels, slows down digestion, and reduces appetite.
Q. How should I use Dulaglutide?
Before injecting the medicine, wash your hands and inspect your Dulaglutide pen. The pen has parts which are made of glass. Use a new one if you drop it. You can inject the medicine below the skin of the abdomen or thigh. You can inject into the same body area each week, but try not to use the exact same spot. Your doctor can help you identify a suitable injection site.

Q. How do I store my Dulaglutide pen?
Store your Dulaglutide pen in the refrigerator. When refrigeration is not possible, you can also store it at room temperature (less than 30°C) for up to 2 weeks. Store the pen away from light in the original pack until you are ready to use it.

Q. What should I do if I miss a dose of Dulaglutide pen?
A missed dose of Dulaglutide can be safely taken for upto 3 days after the regularly scheduled dosing day. For example, if the schedule for normal dose is on Monday, the patient can take Dulaglutide until Thursday in case of a missed dose. However, If the dose is not administered on the following Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday, patients should wait until the following Monday, thus resuming their normal dosing schedule. A patient should not take 2 doses of Dulaglutide within 72 hours of each other.

Q. What should I do with my used pens of Dulaglutide?
Put your used pens in a closeable sharps container to prevent accidental needle sticks. Some areas have special rules about what to do with used pens. So be sure to ask your health care provider about it.

Q. What will happen if I use Dulaglutide in excess?
Excess of Dulaglutide can drop your blood sugar to very low levels (hypoglycemia) and make you feel sick. Talk to your doctor immediately.

Q. What should I do in case I experience any of the side-effects of Dulaglutide?
The most common gastrointestinal side effects with Dulaglutide includes nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, abdominal pain and decreased appetite. These symptoms are usually not severe and decrease after the second dose for most people. If you experience nausea, talk to your health care provider. These tips may help you manage it: 1) Eat smaller meals 2) Stop eating when you feel full 3) Avoid fried or other fatty foods. Choose food or drinks containing ginger, like ginger tea. Another possible side effect is hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) and to prevent this, your doctor may lower the doses of other type 2 diabetes medicines you are taking with Dulaglutide. Some people lose a little weight while taking Dulaglutide. In studies, the average weight loss was 0.35 kg to 2.90 kg. However, Dulaglutide is not a weight-loss product.

Q. Does the use of Dulaglutide associated with hypoglycemia (low blood sugar levels)?
While taking Dulaglutide, if you are using another medicine that can cause low blood sugar (such as insulin or a sulfonylurea), your risk of getting low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) may be higher. Signs and symptoms of low blood sugar may include dizziness, blurred vision, anxiety, irritability, mood changes, sweating, slurred speech, hunger, confusion or drowsiness, shakiness, weakness, headache, fast heartbeat, or feeling jittery. Talk to your health care provider about low blood sugar and how to manage it.

Q. Can Dulaglutide be used for children below 18 years of age?
Safety and effectiveness of Dulaglutide have not been established and use is not recommended in patients less than 18 years of age.
